The XXIV Corps nears the last Japanese defensive line in the south of the island, which runs from Yuza in the west to Guschichan on the east coast and is based on 3 hills, Yaeju, Yuza and Mezado.

The battleship Mississippi (BB-41) and the heavy cruiser Louisville (CA-28) are hit and seriously damaged by Japanese suicide aircraft.
