  • Carrier aircraft from Task Group 38.1 and Task Group 38.4 attack the Kanoya airfield complex on Kyushu.

  • VII Fighter Command P-51s dispatched on a strike to Japan abort in the face of bad weather.
  • The typhoon-damaged USS Bennington (Fleet Carrier Air Group 82, including VMF-112 and VMF-123) is detached from Task Group 38.1 to undergo repairs at Leyte.

5th Air Force operations on Luzon are severely curtailed by bad weather, and a mission to Formosa is canceled.

  • 318th Fighter Group P-47s down 5 A6M Zeros north of Okinawa between 0815 and 0841 hours.
  • Marine Corps F4Us down 6 Japanese aircraft near Okinawa between 0815 and 0900 hours, and a Ki-45 'Nick' fighter off Okinawa at 2000 hours.

110 B-29s drop high explosive bombs on Japanese aircraft factories at Akashi, Narao and Nagoya.

Dutch East Indies

Allied cruisers and destroyers lay down a heavy 2-day bombardment on Japanese facilities around Brunei Bay, on North Borneo's northwest coast.

Severe fighting continues in the Oroku peninsula, while the XXIV Coprs prepares a big attack against Mount Yaeju.

  • The cruiser Ashigara is sunk by the British submarine Trenchant off Sumatra.
  • US carrier aircraft attack Kanoya airfield on Kyushu, inflicting further damage on Japanese homeland air resources.
  • The US minesweeper Salute (AM-294) sinks by hitting a mine in the Borneo area.

Philippines

On Luzon the 145th Inf, 37th Div, takes Solano and advances almost as far as Bagabag, both places being northeast of Santa Fe, toward the Cagayan valley. Some patrols push eastward as far as the Magat River.
