  • 8 341st Medium Bomb Group B-25s and 7 14th Air Force P-51s attack a communications center near Puchou and rail yards at Kaifeng.
  • 8 P-51s attack 2 bridges and rail targets of opportunity.
  • 62 V Bomber Command B-24s successfully attack numerous wooden vessels clustered in Hong Kong harbor with experimental 55-gallon drums of napalm.

Air Operations, East Indies

  • FEAF B-24s attack the Balikpapan and Sepinggang areas.
  • 42nd Medium Bomb Group B-25s and XIII Fighter Command P-38s support Australian Army ground forces in the Brunei Bay area and sweep northern Borneo.
  • A 419th Night Fighter Squadron P-61 crew downs a Ki-45 'Nick' fighter near Brunei Bay at 1930 hours.

Air Operations, Formosa

Despite bad weather, several V Bomber Command B-24s are able to attack the primary target at Toshien, and a small number of B-24s divert to several other targets. Also, 2 386th Bomb Squadron B-32s attack the airfield at Koshun.

During the night 29 505th Very Heavy Bomb Group B-29s sow mines in Shimonoseki Strait and off Niigata.

US Navy and Marine Corps aircraft support US 10th Army ground forces on Okinawa and attack airfields in the Sakishima Islands.

The Japanese prepare to leave Liuchow and Kweilin and the first stage of the Chinese operation against the Hong Kong-Canton area is made necessary.

Dutch East Indies

The Australian forces liberate to town of Brunei.

Okinawa

The Japanese in the Oroku peninsula cease all resistance. The 6th Marine Div takes a record number of prisoners

169. The 1st Marine Div sends 1 regiment against Kunishi Ridge; the Americans succeed in taking and holding several positions, but with high casualties. The XXIV Corps, using armored flame-throwers, destroys one by one the Japanese cave positions on Mount Yousa and Mount Yaeju and on Hills 153 and 115.

The US battleship Idaho (BB-42) is damaged by grounding in the Okinawa area.

Philippines

On Luzon the Americans send an armored column beyond Orioung Pass to exploit the breakthrough made by the 145th Inf, but a Japanese counterattack blocks the road.
