The Blitz

Bristol is the target for the second night in a row. 124 aircraft from Luftflotte II and III target Avonmouth Docks. Thousands of incendiaries fall. Economically the raid is not successful because of prompt firefighting measures. There is still a lot of damage in the city, but the casualties are light.

Greek-Albanian Front

The Greeks begin a new offensive. They drive westward toward Valona from their positions in the mountains at Berat to Klisura. The Greeks are, however, outnumbered by the Italians, only 13 divisions against 16 Italian divisions, and find it difficult to make significant gains.

A small force of Tuareg and Tibesti tribesmen under Free French officers cross 485 km of desert from Chad to the Murzuk Oasis in southern Libya and destroy the Italian air base there. This action is known as the Murzuk Raid.
