Air Operations, Europe

During the night 95 RAF bombers raid Bremen to attack the Focke-Wulf factory and the shipyards.

Balkans, Politics

Joachim von Ribbentrop, the German foreign minister, meets Bogdan Filov, the Bulgarian prime minister, in Berlin to discuss arrangements for allowing the passage of German troops across Bulgaria. No agreement is reached but Bulgaria is now nearer to acquiescing to German pressure to join the Tripartite Pact.

Mediterranean

The strength of the German X Fliegerkorps in Sicily is now 96 bombers and 25 fighters. At full strength there will be 270 bombers, 150 of them Stukas, 40 fighters and 20 scout planes. At this time the RAF has only 15 Hurricanes in Malta.

There is a naval and air bombardment by the British on Bardia, the Italian strongpoint on the Egyptian frontier.
