  • A VMF-512 F4U based aboard the USS Gilbert Islands downs a Ki-46 'Dinah' reconnaissance plane north of Okinawa at 1530 hours.

China, Politics

Chiang Kai-shek gives up his title as premier but remains president of China.

For millions of people the war is not yet over. Some of the first Russian displaced persons and former prisoners of war to leave transit camps near Hamburg for the Russian zone of occupation from where they will be repatriated to the Soviet Union. Trains ran direct from Hamburg to Crivitz, 31 May 1945
