Western Front

In the US 7th Army area, on the Mediterranean coast, elements of the 1st ABTF take Menton and drive to the Italian border. In the French II Corps area, the 1st Armored Division reaches Beaune, on the road to Dijon. The 1st Infantry Division outflanks and captures Autun. In the VI Corps area, the 141st Infantry of the 36th Division follows the 143rd across the Doubs at Avanne and cuts the highways west and northwest from Besançon. The Germans are beginning to withdraw from the Baume-les-Dames area to avoid encirclement.
