SOUTHERN FRANCE

In the US 7th Army's VI Corps area, Besançon falls to the 3rd Division. The 45th Division crosses the Doubs River in the Baume-les-Dames area. The 36th Division attempts unsuccessfully to cross southwest of Besançon. Elements, however, do cross in the 3rd Division's sector at Avanne. The French I Corps occupies Briançon.
