ItalyGen Alexander learns the the VI Corps headquarters will be withdrawn for ANVIL at once, the 3rd Division on 17 June, and the 36th on 27 June. 2 French divisions are to be withdrawn to the Naples area, one on the 24th and the other in early July. In the US 5th Army area, Liberty ships are now able to use the Civitavecchia port. The IV Corps continues to push north and northwest with elements taking Magliano. The FEC boundary is moved to the west and the TF under Gen Guillaume (1st Group of Tabors and the Moroccan 1st Infantry) assumes responsibility for the left flank. In the British 8th Army's XIII Corps area, Orvieto falls to the South African 6th Armored Division without a struggle. The 78th Division, to the east, overtakes the enemy rear guard and inflicts heavy losses in vehicles and guns. |
