Battle of the Atlantic

U-96 sinks the British steamer Almeda Star (14,935t) 35 miles northeast of Rockall with the loss of all 360 passengers and crew.

The Blitz

Swansea is the target. 100 bombers of Luftflotte III make the raid. The dock area is hit by high explosives damaging the Prince of Wales Dry Dock. Numerous fires are started from the 32,000 incendiaries that are also dropped. Most of the damage is to commercial and residential areas.

The Nationalist Kuomintang government disbands the rebellious Communist New 4th Army.

China Sea

The Battle of Koh-Chang in the China Sea takes place. A Vichy French squadron defeats the Thai Navy sinking 3 ships.
