Air Operations, Europe

There are RAF night raids on oil installations at Regensburg and Porto Marghera near Venice. Leaflets are dropped over Padua.

Atlantic

A 21-ship troop convoy leaves Britain for North Africa.

The Blitz

London is the target for 141 bombers dropping more tonnage than the previous night. The main targets are the dock installations along the banks of the Thames. Fires are started at Victoria and Albert Docks and Woolwich Arsenal. Also hit are the Industrial Premises at Crayford and the oil tanks at Purfleet. There are about 150 casualties in southeast London alone.

Malta

British aircraft based on Malta attack Catania airfield on Sicily in an attempt to prevent German and Italian planes from attacking Malta while temporary repairs are carried out on the crippled aircraft carrier Illustrious.
