Air Operations, Europe

The RAF makes night raids on Kiel and Wilhelmshaven.

Balkan Politics

Bulgaria rejects membership in the Axis by refusing to sign the Tripartite Pact. Strong pan-Slavic feelings incline the Bulgarians toward Russia since they have nor particular affinity for the Germans or their politial philosophy.

The Blitz

Bristol is hit by 9 planes of KG100. They drop 70 small high explosive bombs and 6,500 incendiaries. Damage is done to a bank, 2 churches, several houses and buildings of the National Smelting Co. 19 people are injured.

German Raiders

The German armed merchant cruisers Orion and Komet sink the New Zealand steamer Holmwood (546t) in the South Pacific 27 miles southwest of Durham Point, Chatham Island. 17 crew and 13 passengers are landed on Emirau Island on 21 December.

Mediterranean

The British SS Patria (11,885t) is blown up and sunk at Haifa by the Zionist terrorist organization Irgun Zvai Leumi to prevent its use as deportation vessel for Palestinian Jews.
