Battle of the Atlantic

U-20 sinks the Swedish steamer Sylvia (1524t) northeast of Aberdeen.

Diplomatic Relations

A trade agreement is reached between France and Spain. Spain is to receive French wheat, fertilizers and manufactured goods in exchange for iron ore and other minerals.

Finland - Winter War

Day 45

On the central Isthmus the Russians launch offensives at Lähde and Summa. Both are successfully repulsed. On the Ladoga Karelia the great Kitelä 'motti' is established by the Finns.

In the Aland Sea the Soviet submarine STS-324 attacks Finnish convoys in the Märket narrows. The Finnish escort vessel Aura II sinks after one of its own depth charges explodes on deck.

Soviet bombers are again active across Finland. At Hämeenlinna 12 people are killed and 21 are injured. In Helsinki 6 people are killed, 21 are injured and the Hietalahti shipyard is set on fire. In Lahti, the bombing damages the radio transmitter.
