Baltic Sea

German warships seize 2 merchant vessels; the Swedish steamer Jupiter (2152t) is taken to Kiel and the Greek steamer Marietta Nomikou is taken to Pillau.

Poland

German-occupied Poland, not already annexed to Germany, is put under a German Governor-General with his capital at Krakow. Appointed to the post is Hans Frank, a high Nazi official and former Reich Minister of Justice. He takes office Nov 8 and immediately begins the persecution of Polish intellectuals and Jews.
