Eastern Front

The 3rd Belorussian Front launches a series of fierce attacks around the Konigsberg perimeter, testing the German defenses. The 48th, 50th 11th Guards and 39th Armies all attacking during the course of the day, inflicting heavy casualties.

With the fighting in Pomerania over, the Soviets assess the cost. The 1st Belorussian Front has lost 12,000 killed and 40,000 wounded since February and the 2nd Belorussian 40,000 killed and 132,000 wounded.

The 7th Guards Army captures Bratislava after a brief battle. Gen Kreysing draws hi broken army west, falling back upon Brno.
