Eastern Front

CENTRAL SECTOR

The German 9th Army launches an unsuccessful counterattack at Kustrin. Farther south, the 13th Army of the 1st Ukrainian Front takes Glogau after a long struggle.

SOUTHERN SECTOR

The 2nd Ukrainian Front presses home its attack across the Vah, the 7th Guards Army beginning to envelop the German forces which are trying to bar the road to Bratislava. Farther south Sopron falls to the 6th Guards Tank Army after a brief battle.

The Stavka issues new orders for the 46th Army to envelop Vienna from the east while the 4th and 9th Guards and 6th Guards Tank Armies approach from the south and west. With Hungary under Soviet control, many surviving Hungarian soldiers begin to surrender. There will still be some Hungarians fighting on with Army Group Ostmark until the very end of the war though.
