Eastern Front

CENTRAL SECTOR

In East Prussian the German 4th Army abandons Wormditt to the 48th Army after heavy fighting. In Silesia the 1st Ukrainian Front has comprehensively defeated the 17th Army on the Oder and forces back the 4th Panzer Army to the Niesse River. Glogau has been encircled by the 3rd Guards Army and some 18,000 German soldiers cut off. The 6th Army launches a direct assault upon Breslau but is repulsed. Leignitz is also attacke while Luben (now Lubin), Haynau (Chojnow), Neumarkt (Sroda-Slaska) and Kanth (Katy-Wroklowskie) all fall.

SOUTHERN SECTOR

During the evening the Germans begin to assemble in their attack sectors prior to the breakout from Buda. Heavy fighting erupts as the Soviet positions are stormed by some 28,000 men but intense fire inflicts serious losses upon the Germans.
