The Germans on Crete abandon all areas except large towns and move to Suda Bay and other coastal embarkation points.

Philippines

On Leyte the offensive capacity of the Japanese is already severely limited by the lack of supplies and ammunition. However, there is still hard fighting on Kilay Ridge and on a line of hills southeast of Limon, west of Carigara.

Due to limitations on logistics support and limited air cover available from the airfields on Leyte, Gen MacArthur delays the landing operation on Mindoro for 10 days. The new date is December 15. Lt-Gen Walter Krueger has formed the Western Visayan Task Force under command of Brig-Gen William C. Dunkel, composed of the 19th RCT of the 24th Infantry Division and the 503rd Parachute Infantry Regiment, along with air and naval assets, to conduct the mission. The ground element of the task force is to seize airfields in support of the Luzon amphibious assault.
