Western Europe21st ARMY GROUPCanadian 1st Army In the II Corps area, a brigade of the 52nd Division makes an amphibious assault on Beveland from Terneuzen landing on the south coast near Baarland and establishing a bridgehead. The Canadian 2nd Division continues to push westward along the Beveland Isthmus. The Canadian 3rd Division is steadily reducing the Breskens Pocket. In the British I Corps area, the US 104th Division gets into position for an attack on Zundert. British 2nd ArmyIn the XII Corps area, the 53rd Division overruns 's Hertogenbosch. 12th ARMY GROUPUS 9th Army In the XIX Corps area, troops of the 102nd Division enter combat for the first time, with the 406th Infantry attached to the 30th Division, the 405th to the 2nd Armored, and the 407th to the 29th Division. US 1st ArmyIn the V Corps area, the 28th Division takes responsibility for the zone previously held by the 39th and 60th Regiments of the 9th Division. The 9th Division goes back to Camp Elsenborn. The 5th Armored Division, to which CCA reverts from its attachment to the XIX Corps, moves to the rear of the 4th Division. US 3rd ArmyIn the XX Corps area, action at Maizières-lès-Metz centers about the strongly held Hôtel de Ville. K Company of the 357th Infantry, 90th Division, reaches the hotel but is driven back. 6th ARMY GROUPUS 7th Army In the VI Corps area, the 3rd Division continues toward St Dié under exceptionally heavy artillery fire, as the 7th Infantry, in the center, overruns Les Rouges Eaux. On the left flank of the corps, the 45th Division is clearing the Forêt d'Housseras and working toward Raon-l'Etape. The 36th Division on the southern flank, is relieving its isolated 141st Infantry force, which begins a drive to the west in an effort to break out. |
