Western Europe

In the II Corps area, the Canadian 2nd Division, working slowly westward along the Beveland Isthmus, reaches Rilland.

In the British I Corps area, the US 104th Division drives northward with 3 regiments abreast toward Zundert.

In the 1st Army area, the boundary between the VII and V Corps is temporarily altered to give V Corps responsibility for Schmidt. The V Corps takes command of the 9th Division, less the 47th Infantry which is at Schevenhuette. The 28th Division begins the relief of the battle-worn 9th Division in preparation for the drive on Schmidt.

In the XV Corps area, the 44th Division withstands repeated counterattacks against its positions east of the Forêt de Parroy. The French 2nd Armored Division is ordered to attack on the right flank of the corps in support of the VI Corps before 1 November.

In the VI Corps area, Gen Brooks, former commander of the V Corps, takes command of the corps, replacing Gen Truscott. The 36th Division attempts in vain to relieve the isolated battalion of the 141st Infantry north of La Houssière.
