Western Europe12th ARMY GROUPGen Bradley orders the 9th, 1st, and 3rd Armies to prepare for a drive to the Rhine with a 5 November target date for the 9th and 1st Armies and 10 November for the 3rd Army. 1st ArmyIn the VII Corps area, the German commander of the Aachen garrison surrenders at 1205, concluding the struggle that has cost the enemy heavily in badly needed reserve strength. 6th ARMY GROUPUS 7th Army In the XV Corps area, the 79th Division launches a full scale assault on the height east of the Forêt de Parroy, with the 313th Infantry on the left, the 315th in the center, and the 314th on the right. Some progress is made against strong opposition. In the VI Corps area, the 179th Infantry of the 45th Division enters Brouveleures after the main body of the enemy has withdrawn and begins to clear rear-guard opposition. As the 7th Infantry continues toward St Dié, clearing Domfaing, the 3rd Division commits the 15th Infantry to the left aiding the 45th Division south of Brouveleures. The 36th Division is improving its positions east of Bruyères. |
