21st ARMY GROUP
Canadian 1st Army

The British I Corps, protecting the right flank of the II Corps, opens a drive toward the Bergen-op-Zoom-Tilburg highway with the Canadian 4th Armored Division on the left, the 49th Division in the center, and the Polish 1st Armored Division on the right.

12th ARMY GROUP
1st Army

In the VII Corps area, the 26th Infantry of the 1st Division, which is being assisted by elements of the 110th Infantry, 28th Division, forces the enemy to the west and southwest suburbs of Aachen.

3rd Army

In the XX Corps area, the Germans heavily shell 90th Division elements at Maizières-lès-Metz.

In the XII Corps area, P-47s of the XIX TAC breach a dam and release waters of Etang de Lindre to forestall later flooding of the Seille River by the Germans.

6th ARMY GROUP
US 7th Army

Two fresh US divisions (the 100th and the 103rd) arrive at Marseille.

In the VI Corps area, the 179th Infantry of the 45th Division attacks for Brouvelieures after preparatory fire and gains the heights commanding the town. The 180th Infantry, which has been pushing toward the Mortagne River from the Fremifontaine area, tries in vain to break through the enemy defenses along the river. The 3rd Division begins the drive on St Dié, employing the 7th Infantry, which heads for Vervezelle, northeast of Bruyères.
