The British 7th Armored Division captures Livarot. The Canadian II Corps frustrates a final desperate enemy attempt to escape from the Falaise-Argentan Pocket. The British 2nd Army heads for the Seine, passing through US forces in the Argentan area. 12th Army GroupIn the US 3rd Army's XV Corps area, the 79th Division establishes a bridgehead across the Seine near Mantes-Gassicourt. The 5th Armored Division continues northward toward Louviers. The XX Corps attacks eastward toward the Seine, with the 7th Armored Division on the north and the 5th Division on the south, in an effort to gain bridgeheads at Melun and Monterau. The XII Corps attacks for a bridgehead over the Yonne River at Sens with the 4th Armored Division spearheading. In the US 1st Army's V Corps area, the 80th Division overcomes moderate resistance at Argentan. The XIX Corps continues northward with elements forcing the Aure between Verneuil and Nonancourt. |
