Western FrontSOUTHERN FRANCEIn the US 7th Army area, the Army Command Post is established ashore west of St Tropez. The German garrison of Port Cros Island is resisting strongly from the fort on the west end of the island. The 1st Airborne Task Force (ABTF) consolidates in the rear of the beachhead and overcomes the opposition at Le Muy. The VI Corps orders exploitation inland. The 7th Infantry, 3rd Division, is slowed by roadblocks as it continues westward along the coast beyond Cap Nègre while the attached French Commandos are clearing Cap Bénat, west of Cap Nègre. The 15th Infantry assembles near Collobrières. The 30th Infantry overruns La Guarde Freinet, Les Mayon, Gonfaron, and Collobrieères to establish along the Blue Line. The 45th Division completes clearing its zone, closing along the Blue Line. The 36th Division is in contact with the 45th Division to its left and the French survivors of ROSIE Force on its right. The 142nd Infantry overruns Fréjus and Puget while the 143rd clears St Raphaël. The 141st Infantry continues northward along the coast, seizing Theoule and taking up defensive positions near La Napoule. The French Army B (Gen de Lattre de Tassigny), under the command of the 7th Army, begins landing its II Corps over the VI Corps beaches in preparation for the drive on Toulon and Marseille from the Blue Line. |
