Western FrontFRANCEIn the US 1st Army's VIII Corps area, the 6th Armored Division's CCR, attacking in the coastal sector, overruns Granille and the entire division moves southeastward to the Avranches area. At 2100 the 6th Armored Division is ordered to relieve the 4th Armored Division at Avranches and secure the bridges in that area. The 4th Armored Division probes southward from Avranches and secures the crossing of the Selune near Pontaubault. In the VII Corps area, the 1st Infantry Division and CCA of the 3rd Armored Division drive rapidly to Brécey on the right flank of the corps and secure the crossing of the Sée River. The 4th Division and CCB, 3rd Armored Division, drive forward beyond Villedieu-lès-Poëles. The XIX Corps continues attacks toward Tessy against heavy resistance. The 30th Division overruns Troisgots, north of Tessy. The V Corps drives to the south toward the Vire, with the 35th Division taking Torigny-sur-Vire. In the British 2nd Army area, the VIII Corps gets forward elements across the Soulevre River near Le Bényy-Bocage. The Guards Armored Division reaches Le Tourneur. The XXX Corps takes Cahagnes and is approaching Jurques. The Canadian 1st Army takes command of the Canadian II Corps. |
