In the US 5th Army's IV Corps area, the 135th Infantry of the 34th Division makes little progress toward Leghorn. Armored units on the coast covers its flank. The 442nd Infantry takes Luciana. The 168th and 133rd Regiments reach the southern edge of the Arno River Valley, the 168th after a stiff battle for Fauglia. The 361st Infantry, 91st Division, drives through Ponsacco toward Pontedera. The 362nd advances through Capannoli and across the Era River toward the Arno. Enemy resistance to the 88th Division stiffens, but the 3rd Battalion, 349th Infantry, seizes Palaia. On the extreme right of the corps, TF Ramey, consisting so far of armored units, is reinforced by a battalion of the 351st Infantry and takes Montaione.

The British 8th Army commander concludes that the Gothic Line must be assaulted by two corps up the axes Florence-Firenzuola and Florence-Bologna. The XIII Corps pursues the enemy toward Florence.

In the X Corps area, the Indian 4th Division reaches the Alpe di Poti and begins clearing that hill mass.

The Polish II Corps, with close air support, begins an assault on Ancona.
