AAI directs the British 8th Army to take Ancona and Florence and the US 5th Army, Leghorn. Later, an attack is to carry through the Gothic Line between Dicomano and Pistoia to the Po River line, where bridgeheads are to be established.

In the US 5th Army's IV Corps area, the 135th Infantry of the 34th Division meets little opposition at it continues toward Leghorn. The 442nd Infantry tanks San Pieve di Luce as the 133rd is approaching Usigliano. Elements of the 91st Division's 363rd Infantry take Chianni without opposition early in the day. Patrols of the 362nd find that the Germans have abandoned Terricciola. The 88th Division gains about 4 miles on the right flank of the IV Corps, overrunning key positions at Belvedere and Villamagna.

In the FEC area, as enemy resistance collapses, the French take Poggibonsi and continue toward Certaldo.

In the British 8th Army's XIII Corps area, New Zealand troops gain the summit of Monte Carmucino, but German opposition then stiffens all along the line.
