Gen Wilson, as a result of the decision to undertake ANVIL, issues a new directive calling for the AAI to advance to the Po River line and from there to the line Venice-Padua-Verona-Breacia, and promises that the US 92nd Division and a Brazilian division may be expected as reinforcements, the former about 15 September and the latter by the end of October.

In the US 5th Army's IV Corps area, the 135th Infantry of the 34th Division gains about half of Rosignano as stubborn fighting continues. The 442nd Infantry secures positions on a ridge some 2 miles east and 1 mile north of Rosignano. The 168th and 363rd Regiments maintain and consolidate positions to the right.

In the British 8th Army area, the XIII Corps meets stiffening resistance all away down the line. Efforts to break through to cut Highway 69 west of Arezzo fail. The 4th Division takes Tuori.

In the X Corps area, the Indian 10th Division reaches Umbertide. The Germans are again withdrawing in front of the corps.

In the Polish II Corps area, Badia falls to the Carpathian 3rd Division.
