Western Front - Battle For Caen

This day begins the storm which delays the Allied attack and saves the Germans. On the western part of Sword Beach hundreds of small craft are washed ashore by the gale at high tide and lie on the road which goes across the beach. The big transports lying offshsore could not load men or vehicles to the run to the shore. It will last three days. Needless to stay the build-up has stopped. The biggest casualties of the storm are the Mulberry artificial harbors which are incomplete and whose remaining parts are being shipped as the storm hit.
