Western Front - Battle For Caen

Early in the morning, about 0430, the left Battle Group of 2nd Panzer assembles for another attack to the north. A few self-propelled anti-tank guns move up to support the grenadiers of the 304th Panzer Grenadier Regiment. A protective artillery barrage is delivered by the 74th Artillery Regiment. The Germans move into the outskirts of le Quesnay. The British come in for attack but several of their Cromwells are soon put out of action and the Germans move into le Quesnay fighting house-to-house. The British force their way back into le Quesnay and cut off the retreat of the German half-tracks and trucks. The Germans stop the British attack, but fall back also to about where they had started that morning.
