In the US 5th Army's IV Corps area, the port of Piombino falls without opposition to the 39th Engineers. This is the last day of action in Italy for the 36th Division. The FEC begins crossing the Orcia in strength as enemy opposition diminishes.

In the British 8th Army's XIII Corps area, the 78th Division expands its Pescia bridgehead slowly. The 4th Division forces the German rear guards from Vaiano. The Germans retain Chiusi throughout the day but withdraw after nightfall, blocking the exits.
