With the 42nd Army pinning down the 18th Army, Sviridov's 55th Army also attacks.

Elements of the 6th Army breaks into the right wing of the 62nd Army, outflanking the Soviet unit from the north. A rapid German thrust then reaches the Don at Kamensk. The Stavka immediately orders the situation to be restored and the Germans forced back to the Chir. The Germans, however, isolate 2 rifle divisions and 1 tank brigades of the 62nd with the 64th Army also begins to crumble.
