On the Baltic coast the Germans reach Kunda, slicing Ivanov's 8th Army in two. The X Rifle Corps falls back into Tallinn while the XI retreats toward Narva. CENTRAL SECTORThe Stavka allocates the 49th Army to the Reserve Front. SOUTHERN SECTORThe 6th and 12th Armies launch a final effort to break free but fail. Barely 11,000 men escape the pocket during the battle. With the threat to its rear now acute, the 18th Army begins to fall back toward the east, fighting their way against roving German armor and infantry forces. |
