Battle of the Atlantic

  • U-96 sinks the British steamer Black Osprey (5589t), a straggler behind Convoy HX-107, 130 miles south of Iceland. 26 of her crew are lost, 11 survivors are picked up by the Norwegian steamer Mosdale.
  • U-103 sinks the British steamer Seaforth (5459t) south of Iceland with the loss of all 59 of her crew.

Diplomatic Relations

There is an amicable settlement of a dispute between the Swiss and the British over alleged British bombing raids on Basel and Zurich in Dec 1940.

Italian East Africa

In Abyssinia South African forces advancing from Kenya attack the town of Mega. It is quickly captured along with 1000 prisoners.
