Finland - Winter War

Day 49

On the Ladoga Karelia the Finnish 12th Div launches an offensive in the Uomaa sector. The IV Army Corps is forced to stop its offensive in the Pitkäranta area. The Finns lack the strength to drive to the border. On the central Isthmus in the Lähde road sector, Russian artillery inflicts serious damage on 'Fort Poppius', a concrete fortress that can house 26 men. The Finns recapture Kursu, southwest of Salla.

Over the Isthmus Fokker fighters from 24 Squadron shoot down 8 enemy SB bombers. Russian bombers hit Turku, Hanko, Lappeenranta, Koivisto and the south harbor in Viipuri.
