Duchess of Gloucester Chats with Members of the Australian Women’s Land Army
Duchess of Gloucester chats with members of the Australian Women’s Land Army during a visit to Manly, on Sunday June 10, 1945. These Land Army girls were employed growing lettuces and tomatoes on Mr J. Aberdeen’s farm and were based at Victoria Point. They were part of a mobile force of women rural workers formed in October 1942 to produce fruit, vegetables and beef when shortages were experienced during the war in the Pacific. The Duchess of Gloucester was their Commander in Chief.
