First U-Boat Surrenders. May 10, 1945, Wwymouth Bay. The German submarine U-249, with five officers and 47 ratings on board, surrendered to Commander H. J. Weir. RN. She was thte first to reach Britain and came in under the escort of two British sloops with the white ensign flying.
