Gen Muller requests permission to evacuate the remnants of his 4th Army and its remaining heavy equipment from Heiligenbeil. Hitler predictably refuses. Fighting has reached Heiligenbeil itself.

The last units of the 3rd Panzer Army trapped on the eastern bank of the Oder near Altdamm are destroyed. This battle has cost the Germans another 40,000 killed and 12,000 captured.

In Hungary Tatabanya falls to the 46th Army. A little to the south elements of the 9th Guards Army enter Szekesfehervar after heavy fighting with the 6th Army. The 6th is fighting desperately to gain time for the 6th SS Panzer Army to escape the developing cauldron near Lake Balaton.
