Eastern Front

CENTRAL SECTOR

The 1st Polish Army unleashes an overwhelming assault upon Fullreide's dwingling force in Kolberg. The Germans are reduced to a precarious strip of territory against the sea and make final preparations to evacuate their force now that the civilians have all escaped.

The 4th Ukrainian Front abandons its attacks around Morava Ostrava after limited progress. For his failure, Gen Petrov is dismissed from command of the 4th Ukrainian and Eremenko appointed in his place.

SOUTHERN SECTOR

The 100,000 men of the 46th Army join the counteroffensive in Hungary, striking the 3rd Hungarian Army so hard it begins to disintegrate. As this battle rages the 6th Army and 6th SS Panzer Army are both massively attacked, the 6th struggling to hold off the attacks of the 2 guards armies while the 6th SS is pinned down by aggressive attacks from the 26th and 27th Armies. The continued massive weight of forces hitting the 6th Army threatens to destroy its positions northwest of Lake Velencei and bring about disaster for the whole of the 6th SS Panzer Army to the south. In southern Hungary Army Group E begins to fall back across the Drava, abandoning the Valpovo and Donji Miholjac bridgeheads.
