The 53rd Division reaches Asperberg and finds the bridge there blown. The 51st Division captures Asperden. The 52nd Division, taking over the 51st Division's right, clears Afferden during the night of the 16th. 12th ARMY GROUPUS 3rd Army In the XII Corps area, elements of the 80th, 5th, and 76th Divisions engage in local actions to improve their bridgehead positions and patrol actively. The relief of the 417th Infantry, 76th Division, by the 385th is completed during the night. In the XX Corps area, the 94th Division begins regrouping for an offensive. The 328th Infantry, 26th Division, continues a local action to improve positions in the Saarlautern bridgehead. 6th ARMY GROUPUS 7th Army In the XV Corps area, the 63rd Division continues a limited attack in the right part of its sector until the objective is reached and the line in the Gros Réderching area is straightened. The 44th Division repels counterattacks. In the VI Corps area, the 42nd Division (formerly TF Linden) begins the relief of the 45th Division. The XXI Corps reverts to the control of the 7th Army from its attachment to the French 1st Army. |
