Gen MacArthur orders Manila Bay reopened, a task that entails the clearing of Bataan, Corregidor, and the southern coast of the bay in the Ternate area.
In the XIV Corps area, the 1st Cavalry Division, when forward elements reach the city limits of Manila, is given permission to enter and does so. The 37th Division, whose progress is slower, is to clear the narrow zone along the waterfront. Slowed because they have to move on foot and cross numerous streams, forward elements of the 37th Division are still short of Manila, at Meycauayan. The 129th Infantry arrives in the Calumpit area.
In the I Corps area, the 1st Infantry of the 6th Division pushes forward to positions south and southwest of San Jose. The 1st Battalion of the 35th Infantry, 25th Division, is unable to take Lupao and the 3rd Battalion prepares to join in the attack.
In the XI Corps area, the 34th RCT, under corps control, takes over the assault on Zigzag Pass from the 152nd Infantry, 38th Division, but is up against the Japanese main resistance line and makes little progress.
US 8th ArmyThe 511th Parachute Infantry of the 11th Airborne Division is dropped along Tagaytay Ridge. The drops are widely scattered, but the paratroopers are unopposed and make contact with the 188th Infantry at the west end of the ridge and seize the road junction at the east end. With the ridge secured, plans are made to employ the 511th Infantry in a northward advance on Manila.
