January 4, 1945: American GIs work to uncover the remains of their comrades massacred after surrendering to Nazi forces. Most of the victims were members of the 285th Field Artillery Observation Battalion, who had surrendered on December 16th, after being surrounded by superior armored forces of the SS. Survivors, who managed to flee the scene and return to Allied lines, report that as many as 120 unarmed Americans may have been gathered into a field and brutally machine gunned
