Eastern Front

CENTRAL SECTOR

With the threat to Konigsberg acute the 3rd Panzer Army pushes an infantry division up from the southwest into the city. The division immediately counterattacks to strengthen the northern perimeter.

The 4th Army continues its attack at Wormditt but suffers heavy casualties under intense Soviet counter-fire. As these battles rage the 3rd Belorussian Front takes Bischofsberg and Sensberg, the 4th Army being pushed back toward the sea.

In Pomerania the 1st Belorussian Front pushes back the right flank of the German 2nd Army, capturing Sepolno. Attacks into Brandenburg sees the 1st Guards Tank Army cross the Obra near Meseritz.

The 1st Ukrainian Front captures Katowice and Leszno as the 17th Army hurries along its evacuation of Silesia. A counterattack by elements of the XXIV Panzer Corps near Glogau is stopped after brief but bitter fighting. The Grossdeutschland Corps also joins the attack but is similarly unsuccessful.

At Posen, Major Mattern is relieved as commander of the garrison and Maj-Gen Gonell appointed in his place.

SOUTHERN SECTOR

After bloody fighting Margit Island finally falls to the Soviet forces advancing in Budapest.
