Western Europe12th ARMY GROUPUS 1st Army In the XVIII Airborne Corps area, the 1st Division captures Buellingen and patrols toward Muerringen and Honsfeld. The pinched-out 16th Infantry is withdrawn as reserve. The 82nd Airborne Division's 325th Glider Infantry captures Wereth and is then passed through by the 508th Parachute Infantry, which takes Holzheim, Mededorf, and the high ground near Eimerscheid. US 3rd ArmyThe US 3rd Army launches an attack to penetrate the West Wall and to protect the 1st Army's right flank. In the VIII Corps area, the 87th, 4th, and 90th Divisions attack abreast from the heights west of the Our River. The 345th Infantry, 87th Division, captures Schlierbach and Setz as the 347th closes in on Neidingen and Breitfeld. The 8th Infantry of the 4th Division is held up near Lommersweiler, but the 12th bypasses Hemmeres as it drives across the Our River and advances into Elcherath. The 90th Division, whose mission is to protect the right flank of the corps on the east side of the Our River, crosses the river and the German border. The 357th Infantry crosses near Oberhausen and takes Welchenhausen. The 358th crosses near Stupbach and captures that town. The III Corps is now on its objective, the north-south ridge and road controlling the Clerf and Our valleys. The 6th Armored Division patrols aggressively. On its left flank TF Miltonberger clears Kalborn. In the XX Corps area, the 26th Division takes over the Saarlautern bridgehead sector from the 95th Division. 6th ARMY GROUPFrench 1st Army In the US XXI Corps area, the 3rd Division crosses the Canal de Colmar with the 7th Infantry reaching Bischwihr and the 15th advancing to the northern edge of Muntzenheim. Although enemy remnants hold out in Jebsheim, the 254th Infantry clears to the canal south of there and pushes toward the Rhône-Rhine Canal east of the town. |
