Western Europe21st ARMY GROUPBritish 2nd Army In the XII Corps area, the 7th Armored Division captures Linne and Putbroek and continues northeastward toward the river line. The 52nd Division takes Kirchhoven without opposition and patrols toward the Wurm River. The 43rd Division reaches the Wurm between Heinsberg and Randerath. Patrols find Horst and Randerath clear. 12th ARMY GROUPUS 1st Army In the XVIII (Airborne) Corps area, CCB of the 7th Armored Division consolidates in the immediate vicinity of St Vith while CCA and the 424th RCT take Wallerode and Medel, respectively. In the V Corps area, the 1st Division's 16th Infantry gains Amblève and Mirfeld with ease. The 18th Infantry advances from Moderscheid to the Buellingen-St Vith road. US 3rd ArmyIn the III Corps area, the bulk of the corps is now across the Clerf River, attacking eastward toward a ridge road known as 'Skyline Drive', the Luxembourg-St Vith road paralleling the Our River. CCB, 6th Armored Division, gains positions astride the Weiswampach-Huldange road. The 359th Infantry, 90th Division, takes Hupperdange and Grindhausen. The 357th seizes Heinerscheid and Lausdorn. The 26th Division's 101st Infantry, together with elements of the 6th Cavalry Group, occupies Clerf. The 328th Infantry takes Reuler and Urspelt. In the XII Corps area, the 11th RCT of the 5th Division continues northward, taking Merscheid. The 317th Infantry, 80th Division, clears Wilwerwiltz and establishes a bridgehead across the Clerf and captures Pintsch, east of the river. In the XX Corps area's 94th Division zone, an 8th Armored Division task force takes Berg. Elements of the 302nd Infantry enlarge a gap through the anti-tank defenses. 6th ARMY GROUPUS 7th Army The XV Corps assumes command of the XXI Corps sector and troops (106th Cavalry Group, the 275th and 276th Regiments of TF Herren, and the 10th Armored Division less CCB). In the VI Corps area, the Germans penetrate the 103rd Division's positions, reaching Schillersdorf and Nieffern, and force back the outpost line from Kindwiller. The 103rd Division restores its main line between Muhlhausen and Schillersdorf. As a result of the enemy penetration on the left of the 79th Division's line, TF Wahl is reorganized to consist of the 222nd Infantry, 314th Infantry, 232nd Infantry, CCB of the 14th Armored Division, the Reconnaissance Troop, and elements of the 781st Tank Battalion. This force clears Schweighausen and part of the Bois de Ohlungen. Germans attack across the Moder between Haguenau and Kaltenhouse in the sector of the 242nd Infantry but are driven back across the river. French 1sth ArmyThe US XXI Corps Headquarters and Headquarters Company are attached to the army. In the II Corps area, the French make slow progress in the Elsenheim woods, where the armor is held up by enemy tanks. The US 3rd Division's 7th Infantry, assisted by armor, enters Houssen. The 15th Infantry renews its attack on Riedwihr and gets elements into the town late at night. The 254th Infantry, relieved along the Weiss River by the US 28th Division, attacks toward Jebsheim. |
