Western Europe21st ARMY GROUPBritish 2nd Army In the XII Corps area, the Germans are cleared from Stevensweerd in the 7th Armored Division's sector. The 52nd Division overruns Isenbruch, Breberen, Saeffelen, and Broichhoven. Elements cross the Dutch border, taking Koningsbosch, west of Bocket, and making contact with the 7th Armored Division near that village. 12th ARMY GROUPUS 1st Army In the VII Corps area, the 4th Cavalry Group takes over a sector of the 2nd Armored Division. The 3rd Armored Division gains its final objectives, clearing Brisy, Rettigny, Renglez, and the rest of the zone as far south as the Ourthe River. The 83rd Division cleans out the woods in its zone and sends elements into Bovigny and Courtil. In the XVIII (Airborne) Corps area, the 75th Division is dislodging the enemy from the Grand Bois and withstands pressure near Burtonville. The 30th Division, against light resistance, captures Recht, reduces the roadblock at the junction of the Recht-Born and Malmédy-St Vith roads, continues to clear the woods south of the Recht-Born road, and takes the high ground in the Bois d'Emmels southeast of Poteau. The 7th Armored Division closes in attack postions near Waimes. In the V Corps area, the 1st Division opens a passage through which the 7th Armored Division will drive on St Vith. Against greatly decreased resistance, the 1st also clears Iveldingen, Eibertingen, Montenau, and Schoppen. US 3rd ArmyIn the XII Corps area, the 4th Division gains the heights overlooking the Our northeast of Bettendorf. In conjunction with the 5th Division Bettendorf is cleared, but they are unable to reduce the strongpoint across the Sauer from Reisdorf. The 5th Division takes the rest of Diekirch and occupies Bastendorf. In the XX Corps area, the 302nd Infantry of the 94th Division is clearing bypassed fortifications to allow passage of CCA, 8th Armored Division. CCA, 8th Armored Division, assembles near Koenigsmacker. 6th ARMY GROUPUS 7th Army In the VI Corps area, the 157th Infantry of the 45th Division receives intensified fire and contains counterattacks from the Bitche salient. Efforts to relieve the encircled 3rd Battalion continue. Though the Germans are less aggressive in the Rittershoffen-Hatten area, the 14th Armored Division is unable to improve its positions. The Germans mount strong attacks south of Hatten. To avert the threat of a breakthrough to Haguenau, the 14th Armored Division's 25th Tank Battalion moves to Hochfelden. The 79th Division attacks toward Sessenheim with attached units of the 103rd Division, which enter the town but are driven back out. The German surround the 2nd Battalion, 314th Infantry, in Drusenheim but elements escape. The 12th Armored Division withdraws for relief and contains an enemy attack at the line of relief. The 143rd RCT, 36th Division, takes up defensive positions in the Rohrweiler-Weyersheim region. |
