Western Europe21st ARMY GROUPCanadian 1st Army The first mine sweepers reach Antwerp. In the II Corps area, the British 52nd Division and commandos are methodically clearing Walcheren. A junction is made between forces at the causeway and those who have crossed the Slooe Channel. The Germans are being cleared from the north coast. In the British I Corps area, the 49th and US 104th Divisions continue to push northward toward the Maas in the center of the corps. The Polish 1st Armored Division, on the right flank, takes Geertruidenberg. Steenbergen, on the left flank, is encircled. The 104th Division is directed to move to Aachen when released from its current mission. British 2nd ArmyIn the VIII Corps area, CCA of the US 7th Armored Division continues to clear the northwest bank of the Canal du Nord. 12th ARMY GROUPUS 1st Army In the V Corps area, the Germans counterattack vigorously toward Schmidt and Kommerscheidt, regaining the former. A few tanks that have reached Kommerscheidt help materially in turning the enemy back. The 109th Infantry, 28th Division, withstands a determined enemy attack to the north. To the south, the 110th Infantry makes limited progress and takes Simonskall. US 3rd ArmyIn the XX Corps area, the 3rd Cavalry Group takes the hill overlooking Berg but is driven off in a counterattack. 6th ARMY GROUPUS 7th Army In the VI Corps area, the 3rd Division continues to clear the Forêt de Mortagne west of St Dié and the open ground to the north, where La Salle is now clear. The 36th Division is clearing the Forêt Domaniale de Champ and pushing toward Corcieux on the southern flank of the corps. |
