Eastern Front

NORTHERN SECTOR

Parnu falls to the 2nd Shock Army. Minor elements of the 18th Army are isolated to the north but retreat toward the coast of Haapsalu and the Moonzund Islands.

CENTRAL SECTOR

The Germans halt the 1st Polish Army north of Magnuszew and in bitter fighting inflict crippling losses.

Inside Warsaw the Poles pull back into Mokotow under ferocious attack. Constant arty fire, Luftwaffe attacks and street fighting flatten most of the city. Hitler aims to wipe Warsaw off the map.

SOVIET COMMAND

Having struggles to make any headway, the Stavka suspends the offensive in the Baltic States. It now intends to move the emphasis of the attack south to hit the 3rd Panzer Army rather that the 16th Army, throwing the Germans back to the Baltic near Memel. This will isolate the 16th and 18th Armies in Latvia but open the northeastern approaches of East Prussia.
