Western Europe

21st Army Group

In the Canadian 1st Army's II Corps area, Allied patrols moving along the coast enter Ostend and Nieuport. 4th Armored Division troops cross the Ghent-Bruges Canal southeast of Bruges against strong opposition.

In the British 2nd Army's XXX Corps area, the Guards Armored Division, reinforced by a Royal Netherlands group, extends the bridgehead at Beeringen against sharp opposition. The 50th Division is slowly expanding the Gheel bridgehead. The 11th Armored Division moves forward on the right flank of the corps.

12th Army Group

In the US 1st Army's XIX Corps area, the 113th Cavalry Group enters the Holland panhandle near Maastricht. The rest of the corps is getting into position for an offensive, the 30th Division assembling near Tongres. In the VII Corps area, the 1st Division crosses the Meuse at Liége and pushes eastward on the northern flank of the corps. The 3rd Armored Division heads for Verviers. CCB and attached elements of the 9th Division thrust to Limbourg.

In the US 3rd Army's XX Corps area, forward elements of the 90th Division drive northeastward to the vicinity of Fontoy and Neufchef, the latter being within 8 miles of Thionville. The 2nd Infantry of the 5th Division, assisted by a TF from CCA, 7th Armored Division, continues to attack west of Metz without making any appreciable progress. The 5th Division maintains its small Dornot bridgehead against repeated counterattacks but is unable to expand or reinforce it. In the XII Corps area, the corps commander order an attack on the southern flank to begin on the 11th. The Germans continue to counterattack the 80th Divisions' positions.
