Lt-Col Vandervoot with Broken Ankle
Saint-Sauveur-le-Vicomte, June 16, 1944: Lt-Col Benjamin Hayes Vandervoot copes with a broken ankle after he jumped in France. Refusing to be evacuated, Vandervoot used his jump boot as a temporary cast and fought on until his unit was relieved in July 1944. Vandervoot was a battalion commander with the Army's 82nd Airborne Division.
